Home/Lighting Maintenance Plans

Lighting Maintenance Plans

A lighting system is not an appliance you install and forget. Lamps age, lenses cloud, beds grow into beams and trees move downlights off their aim. A maintenance plan is a technician arriving on a schedule and putting all of that back.

Service beyond the sale

We have never treated the install as the end of the relationship. It is the reason our company kept growing through years when new construction did not, and it is what most of our Google reviews are actually about.

As long as you own the property, we will keep the system on it working. When a house changes hands we introduce ourselves to the new owner and explain what is in their ground, because somebody should.

The first six months are already paid for

Every new NiteLiters system includes two complete inspections, at ninety days and again at a hundred and eighty.

A technician walks the whole property, tests every fixture, re-aims anything that has drifted, cleans the lenses and replaces any lamp that failed early. You receive an invoice for each visit showing exactly what it would have cost, with that amount credited in full. Nothing is due. We do it this way so the value is visible instead of buried in the original price.

Those two visits also catch the small number of things that were always going to go wrong. Nothing is perfect when it is new, and a lamp that was weak from the factory will show itself inside ninety days.

After that, you choose the interval

Most owners move onto a semiannual agreement: twice a year, usually before the evenings get long in spring and again before they get short in autumn. Properties with heavy planting, a lot of canopy work or commercial traffic generally do better quarterly.

Some people prefer request-only, and that is a legitimate choice. You call when something is wrong and we come out. It simply means faults sit unnoticed longer, and an unnoticed fault on a shared cable is usually a bigger bill than a scheduled visit would have been.

What a technician actually does on a visit

  • Tests every fixture and every run, with voltage read at the far end rather than assumed
  • Re-aims anything that growth, weather or a mower has moved off its intended angle
  • Cleans lenses and housings; clouded glass loses a surprising amount of output
  • Replaces failed lamps, at no charge where they are inside the five-year warranty
  • Checks transformers, timers and photocells, and resets the clock after a power cut
  • Inspects below-grade connections for moisture before they take a run down
  • Cuts back planting that has grown into a beam, or flags it for your landscaper
  • Works from your original drawing, so the aiming intent is a record and not a memory

That last point is the quiet advantage of having paid for a design. The technician standing in your garden five years from now is reading the same plan the installer built from, and knows what each fixture was meant to be doing.

If another company put it in

Ring the office and ask whether we can put your system on a plan. Where we can, the first visit takes longer because we are mapping what is actually there, and after that it runs like any other agreement.

Where a system is built from equipment that will not survive another few seasons we say so before you sign anything, rather than collecting a fee to keep it going.

Questions about maintenance

No, and most owners are not.

The work is outside and in daylight. If something needs a decision from you the technician will call rather than guess, and you get a record of what was done on the property.

Lamps still inside their five-year warranty are replaced at no charge, including the trip.

We return the failed lamp to the supplier and they send a new one. Lamps past that window, and any fixture damaged by something outside normal wear, are charged for at cost plus the labour.

Call the office and we will look up the property.

If we designed it, the original drawing is on file with every fixture and lamp specified, which makes servicing it straightforward. We are generally glad to pick the relationship back up with whoever lives there now.

It varies with the season, and spring is always the busiest.

Plan customers are scheduled ahead automatically, which is part of the point of a plan. We also group work geographically, so a Bowling Green or Jasper visit is set for a day we are already in that county.

Let's look at your property after dark

A designer comes out, walks the property with you and gives budget numbers by area. That visit carries no charge. If you want the drawing, we quote a design fee from there.
